Mike Behrend's Biography

Mike Behrend is married to Dianne, and has three grown children (Andrew {married to Pat}, Kathleen, and Nicholas).

Mike was born in Toronto, and grew up in Montreal. Mike’s family moved to Saskatoon in 1978 where Mike graduated (in ’82) from the University of Saskatchewan as a Mechanical Engineer. He spent three decades doing design, solving operations problems and managing global supply chains. Mike retired in 2019.

Mike’s childhood spiritual experience is best described as lapsed Anglican – Mike was christened in a 700-year-old church in England, and went to church perhaps twice a year until his teens when it dried up totally.

Mike and Dianne were married in 1987 with an agreement that Mike would seriously examine the tenants of the Christian faith. Secretly, Mike thought this would be easy to disprove – but in keeping with an honest commitment to study, found much to his surprise that there was a lot more truth than error in the evangelical Christian record. Mike made a confession of faith and was immersion baptised in June 1990.

The church in Saskatoon had an intensive Bible learning programme called “the Bethel Series” which provided an extensive study of both old and New Testament over a two year period which functioned something like bible school for Mike, and has helped him gain a better understanding of scripture.

Mike and Dianne moved to Calgary in 1993 and started attending South Calgary Community Church soon after. Since then Mike has served in the music ministry playing saxophone, and drums; doing sound, and building and projecting media. Mike also served in the Men’s ministry, as chair of the Administration committee for 6 years and as an elder and as chair of the elders during 2 three-year terms. Mike has a heart for teaching and for building a close community of men in the church.
