Missions Committee Report

Hi friends, I would like to share with you about the community dinner our church hosted on May 11th. All involved believe that it was a resounding success. We had 48 guests from Cedarbrae neighbourhood come to enjoy some fabulous food and outstanding South Calgary Community Church hospitality. Mary and her team made delicious Shepherds pie (with a vegetarian option), two salads followed by an impressive chocolate cake and ice cream dessert. It was served family style with food brought out to the tables to allow more engagement with our guests. Everyone raved about the food and words of “so generous”, were heard, as an announcement was made that people could take the leftovers home. Although we had leftovers, God provided the right amount of guests. We catered for 70 people so our 10 tables of seven were full, hosted by volunteers. There was a beautiful sound of voices and excitement in the basement as people chatted and got to know each other. We had a kids table for crafts, hosted by two of our youth who did a fabulous job engaging with the children. The basement was “buzzing” with conversation. Pastor Sam, in his introduction and blessing, made a joke that got everyone relaxed and set the scene for a beautiful time of engagement and sharing. Our guests loved it when he visited each table. The Mission team would like to thank Ingrid and Randy Dahlman for leading us through and funding this first community dinner. A heartfelt, thank you to all the volunteers that gave up their time to prepare, mingle and serve our guests. To the rest of the congregation, thank you for your invaluable prayer! As a result of this dinner, a Muslim couple felt comfortable to ask questions about how Christians conduct themselves. A lonely elderly lady felt “so loved” she became emotional in her response. A retired couple followed up by attending the seniors lunch. A middle-aged man met Pastor Sam for coffee at a later date. Here are two guest survey responses,

Please accept my sincere gratitude for this wonderful community meal. Very well done. Congratulations. My compliments to the chef. Lovely dinner. Good mix of company. It is prayerfully anticipated that SCCC will be hosting future community dinners. Our next one being towards the end of September. Please consider joining this ministry of evangelical outreach, it is so very rewarding! Sarah Blackmore Missions Team Lead
